Safety will be enhanced for local motorists with work to commence on a roundabout at the Kookora Street and Walla Avenue intersection in Griffith.
Griffith City Council received $1M from the Australian Government's Black Spot Program to construct a single-lane roundabout including, medians, line marking, lighting and signage.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said, he was pleased to see work about to commence on the high-risk intersection.
"This is a site that has been identified as one in Griffith where accidents occur frequently," Councillor Curran said.
"The aim of this Black Spot funding is to reduce serious injuries and deaths on our roads, and get people home safely.
"This is a 16-week program of works and we appreciate your patience as this important work is carried out."
The intersection will be closed during construction for the entire 16 weeks. This is specifically Walla Avenue (between Benerembah Street and Yarrabee Street), and Kookora Street (between Griffin Avenue and Murrumbidgee Avenue), from Tuesday 6 August until Saturday 30 November 2024.
The full road closure and detour will be in place with signage advising to seek an alternative route, but access for residents only will be permitted.
