Kookora St/Walla Ave Roundabout Construction Update

Construction is advancing on the Griffith City Council's roundabout project at the intersection of Kookora Street and Walla Avenue, designed to enhance safety.

With $1 million in funding from the Australian Government's Black Spot Program, the project includes a single-lane roundabout, medians, updated line marking, improved lighting, and signage.

Initial progress has included unexpected upgrades to the water main beneath the roundabout, successfully completed to support the infrastructure. Council has adjusted the project delivery timeline to complete asphalt works with available resources. It is anticipated the project will be completed by the end of January 2025.

Concrete contractors have been appointed, and preparations are underway for the kerb, gutter, and concrete annulus, along with drainage work that remains on schedule.

The intersection will remain closed during the construction period, affecting Walla Avenue (from Benerembah Street to Yarrabee Street) and Kookora Street (from Griffin Avenue to Murrumbidgee Avenue) until project completion.

Detours and signage are in place to direct traffic along alternative routes, with access limited to local residents only.
