Fulfilling the wishes of the Kotta and district community, Kotta Station will be relocated to its original location on the Kotta Railway next week.
Deputy Mayor Colleen Gates said the historic landmark had staunchly served its time at the Port of Echuca and now it was time for a change.
"Council is happy to see Kotta Station return home. More than 40 years ago, it was transported from the Kotta Railway to serve as the paddlesteamers' ticket box in the Port.
"The Lockington Kotta Rail Trail Committee now has their own plans for Kotta Station, wishing to incorporate the station into the design of their rail trail.
"We were only too happy to comply with this request and we have given the committee our full support. The station will be moved back to the railway siding at the corner of the Echuca Mitiamo Road and Lockington Road."
If weather conditions permit, removal works will be undertaken across two days, on Monday, 6 June and Tuesday, 7 June.
Cr Gates said the works would also incorporate another exciting improvement in the Port.
"As councillors, we've often heard from the Echuca community that access to the wharf and views of the river need to be enhanced in the Port of Echuca.
"When Kotta Station is removed, our team will also remove the solid fence that blocks the view across the wharf. A fence allowing for clearer visibility will be installed."
"These works will not affect the ability for visitors to access the Port of Echuca or any operating businesses, and I encourage people to venture down to the Port and check out this moment in history!"
