Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink met in Tokyo on December 11 with Japan's Director General Kobe Yasuhiro and ROK Special Representative for the Indo-Pacific Chung Eui-Hae for the second Trilateral Indo-Pacific Dialogue.
The three sides shared their assessments of key geopolitical trends shaping the Indo-Pacific, highlighting the need for continued trilateral cooperation with an emphasis on partnership with Southeast Asian and Pacific Island countries. They reiterated their abiding commitment to regional security and stability, as well as their firm commitment to upholding international law, including the freedom of navigation and overflight. They praised the announcement of the trilateral maritime security and law enforcement framework, and discussed further cooperative steps to coordinate maritime security capacity building across the region. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of collaborating to enhance regional economic security, resilience, and development, including support for infrastructure development and environmental resilience.
Assistant Secretary Kritenbrink, Director General Kobe, and Special Representative Chung underscored the importance of continuing to hold the trilateral dialogue annually and coordinating closely on issues of mutual concern to advance a stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
