The McGowan Government has allocated $5 million through the WA Recovery Plan to upgrade roads leading into the growing Kwinana Industrial Area, with works to commence later this month.
Local Western Australian business Keslake Group Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to reseal 1.5 kilometres of the southbound lanes on Patterson Road, upgrade the intersection of Kwinana Beach Road with Patterson Road and reconstruct 600 metres of Kwinana Beach Road, between Patterson Road and Port Road.
These works are all designed to improve heavy vehicle access and safety, while allowing for future growth and development in the Kwinana Industrial Area.
Almost 11,000 vehicles travel through this area each day, 46 per cent of which are heavy vehicles.
During the five-year period until the end of 2020, a total of 33 reported crashes occurred at the intersection.
In addition to the road improvements, significant drainage will be installed to eliminate water pooling issues on Kwinana Beach Road and street lighting will be improved.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"We've allocated $5 million to upgrade roads leading into the Kwinana Industrial Area, through the WA Recovery Plan, to support local jobs and improve safety.
"This upgrade is critical as these roads play an important role in the State's economy by facilitating the transport of freight to and from Kwinana Ports Bulk Jetty and CBH Grain Terminal, as well as other key local industries.
"Carefully scheduled to avoid the busiest times for industry, the work will be completed before the grain harvest season ramps up in November."
As stated by Kwinana MLA Roger Cook:
"A large volume of vehicles travel through this area every day, including many heavy vehicles accessing the Kwinana Industrial Area.
"These upgrades will be welcomed by the local community and will improve safety and support local jobs."
