Kyneton Skatepark Funding Applauded, Seeks Unity

Council welcomes a $750,000 commitment from the Federal Coalition for a modernised Kyneton Skatepark, if elected.

Mayor Dom Bonanno yesterday joined Liberal candidate for Bendigo Matt Evans, Nationals candidate for Bendigo Andrew Lethlean and Liberal Senator for Victoria Jane Hume in a visit to the existing skatepark, thanking them for the first 2025 Federal Election pledge for the Macedon Ranges.

"Participation of skate wheeled sports is growing in our area, and this facility was identified in Council's Skate and BMX Strategy adopted in 2023 as a priority due to its poor condition and its high importance," Mayor Bonanno said.

"Our community and young people have put up with a range of challenges with the current aging infrastructure. A new facility would give Kyneton a boost and support continued growth of these sports and promote safer participation and spectating for everyone and also develop an attractive and active youth space."

Originally constructed in 2001, the Kyneton Skatepark was assessed as poor and in need of reinvigoration in Council's Skate and BMX Strategy (adopted in November 2023), identified as a short-term priority project to fund.

This upgrade would see the design and construction of a new district facility including a new skatepark, pump track, and other active youth spaces – supporting active and healthy communities, which is a focus for Council as part of its refreshed advocacy efforts soon to be fully released.

Council is calling on Federal Labor Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters to now match the funding ahead of the Federal Election polling day on 3 May 2025.

"Council is finalising a clear refreshed remit of conceptual or shovel-ready projects that we will be advocating for funding support to deliver," Mayor Bonanno said. "To kickstart this push, we would welcome bipartisan support for this Kyneton Skatepark upgrade to make it a certainty, no matter the Federal Election outcome."

There are two Federal electorates within the Macedon Ranges, being:

  • Bendigo: including selected western/northern Macedon Ranges localities such as Malmsbury, Kyneton, Carlsruhe, Tylden and Baynton
  • McEwen: including most other Macedon Ranges localities such as Woodend, Macedon, Gisborne, Riddells Creek, Romsey and Lancefield
