The Australian Government is supporting more than 200 jobs for local cast and crew through the Location Incentive - with the third season of Universal Television's series La Brea to be filmed in Queensland.
La Brea is a television drama series produced by Universal Television and Keshet Studios, with Australian production managed by Matchbox Pictures.
The third instalment of the popular series continues to tell the story of a large sinkhole mysteriously opening in Los Angeles. It transports a disparate group of strangers to an unexplainable primeval world where they must work together to survive, uncover the mystery of where they are and find if there's a way back home.
After two seasons of filming La Brea in Victoria, Queensland will now provide the backdrop for the prehistoric world, with 300 local businesses set to benefit during filming of the production.
The production is expected to inject $66 million into the national economy.
Minister for the Arts Tony Burke said international productions like La Brea benefit the Australian economy as well as our local screen industry.
"Bringing productions like this to our shores means a whole lot of Australian jobs, as well as important opportunities for skills and training in the local screen industry.
"It's essential we continue to do that.
"That's why as part of this year's Budget we've doubled the Location Offset rebate to 30 per cent.
"This means Australia will remain the destination of choice for international productions, and also provide ongoing certainty and opportunity for the industry."
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the opportunity to host a fifth series from Universal Studios Group and Matchbox Productions was testament to the strength of the state's thriving screen industry.
"Through the support of Screen Queensland, my Government is delighted that we have added La Brea to this incredibly positive partnership, which has included Young Rock and Joe vs Carole, as well as Apples Never Fall - currently in production at Village Roadshow Studios," the Premier said.
"La Brea will contribute an estimated $38 million to the Queensland economy, continue an employment pipeline for our esteemed crews and creatives, and showcase some of the Gold Coast and Scenic Rim's stunning locations to a global audience."
Senior Vice President of Production for Universal Television (a division of Universal Studio Group), Richard Ross, said "we are excited to be back in Queensland for the third season of La Brea.
"We've had an incredible experience in Australia thanks to the support of the Australian Government and the local talent and community and are looking forward to creating another epic season."
La Brea is proudly supported by the City of Gold Coast.
