National Parks and Wildlife Service in conjunction with NSW Fire & Rescue is planning a hazard reduction burn in Kamay Botany Bay National Park at La Perouse tomorrow Thursday 24 November.
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Area Manager Ben Khan said the 4 hectares burn adjacent to the St Michaels Golf Course will help protect the surrounding communities and the coastal ecosystems including the Critically Endangered Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub.
'The burn is due to begin at about 9 am. Motorists and cyclists along Cape Banks Road are reminded to be aware of potential smoke hazard and drive and ride to conditions,' Mr Khan said.
'Public access including nearby walking tracks will be closed during the burning operations.
'Smoke from the burn will be evident. People with asthma or those who are susceptible to respiratory problems are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors,' Mr Khan said.
This burn is one of the many hazard reduction operations undertaken by NPWS across New South Wales each year, many with the assistance of the NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire & Rescue NSW.
Regular monitoring of weather and fire-ground conditions, enables NPWS to adjust planning leading up to and immediately prior to commencement of every burn which may require rescheduling burns as required.
