The Tasmanian Liberal Government remains committed to its pro-jobs, pro-housing Development Assessment Panels and will look to progress legislation in the new year.
Minister for Housing, Planning and Consumer Affairs, Felix Ellis, said it was disappointing to see the outcome after a year of strong collaboration and pragmatism.
"Across the Parliament this year we have seen remarkable cooperation and as a result we have seen legislation passing through," Minister Ellis said.
"The Legislative Council last night had an opportunity to adjourn debate and take up the Government's offer of further collaboration on the Bill.
"The Labor and the Greens teamed up to vote against the adjournment, in the full knowledge that the DAPs bill would then be rejected by the Legislative Council in its entirety, denying the Government the opportunity to work through concerns raised.
"Make no mistake, the Labor Party knew exactly what they were doing by refusing to support the adjournment. They knew that the Bill would be rejected – ultimately ending up on the side of the Green's anti-housing, anti-jobs agenda.
"Labor may say they supported the DAPs Bill – but they didn't, they shamelessly stood in the way of its success.
"It is the Government's intention to further consult on our pro-development bill and reintroduce it in the new year – because it's what Tasmanians deserve.
"Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future backs jobs, backs business and backs economic growth – we will continue to deliver legislation that enables this."
