Labor Can't Be Trusted

Tasmanian Government

In an astonishing day, Labor has issued two media releases on energy policy that are in direct conflict with each other.

In scenes reminiscent of the 2024 election when Labor's energy policy couldn't even survive two sleeps, Labor have shown their lack of understanding of the energy system in Tasmania.

The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) regulates transmission costs to all customers to ensure they are prudent and efficient.

By calling on all transmission in the state to be immediately built, regardless of its location or need, Labor would add hundreds of millions onto the cost base of our Major Industrials.

We will continue to progress Marinus Link and the North West Transmission Development (NWTD) in parallel, with a focus now on the first Marinus Cable.

Only Labor could be so confused that they would seek to build stage 2 of the NWTD before there is a second Marinus cable.

Labor has admitted during questioning today that they made up the numbers they quoted on the floor of the House.

Our Major Industrials have faced nowhere near a 20 per cent increase in transmission costs, as claimed by the Opposition.

We will continue to go through the proper planning and design of Marinus Link and NWTD, including scrutiny by the AER, and make a final investment decision when the work has been done.

Labor can't be trusted.
