Labor Comes To Strahan Empty Handed For Christmas

Tasmanian Government

Anthony Albanese is the Grinch who stole Christmas from the people of Strahan.

The Prime Minister's hollow visit to Strahan leaves West Coast families to face another Christmas filled with uncertainty because of the Federal Labor Government's inability to back workers.

Labor has betrayed Tasmanian workers, regional communities, families and small businesses.

The Prime Minister arrived empty handed in Strahan despite knowing there was only one thing on the Christmas list: Maintain salmon farming's existing approvals in Macquarie Harbour, protecting local jobs.

Instead, the Labor Party has again showed up empty handed, feigning support for industry and the workers that are at risk of losing their jobs.

Tasmanians see through Labor's petty politics.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government and industry have been clear, the Prime Minister must show leadership.

Even Tanya Plibersek's own cabinet colleague Julie Collins admitted the most recent science must be considered - science which shows that adaptive management is working, that oxygen levels are the best they've been in more than 10 years and that the skate population is stabilising.

An exemption is not going to cut it for Tasmanian workers.

The Labor Party still has time to accept the science and do the right thing by the salmon workers, their families, the people of Strahan and small business owners.
