Labor Keeps Bikies on Tax-Funded Construction Sites

Liberal Party Victoria

Today the Allan Labor Government voted to keep bikies on taxpayer funded construction sites across Victoria.

In response to shocking allegations of criminality and bikie infiltration across major projects, the Victorian Liberals and Nationals moved to introduce theGovernment Construction Projects Integrity Bill 2024into the Victorian Parliament.

The Bill would have prevented bikies and known organised criminals from gaining employment on Victorian major construction projects.

However, it was immediately voted down by the Allan Labor Government as it continued to talk tough but take no action after a decade ofallowing the CFMEU to run rampant on taxpayer funded construction projects.

Illegal behaviour, thuggish standover tactics, and manipulation of contract agreements has contributed to at least $40 billion in major project cost blowouts under Labor.

Shadow Minister for Transport Infrastructure, David Southwick, said: "Premier Jacinta Allan has again failed a key test of leadership in voting for bikies and organised criminals to continue to have a presence on taxpayer funded construction sites across Victoria.

"A future Liberals and Nationals Government will not only reintroduce this Bill, but will also establish independent watchdog Construction Enforcement Victoria to enforce a reinstated Code of Practice for the building and construction industry."

Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations, David Hodgett, said: "No one with organised criminal links should be able to rort taxpayers' money from major projects, but in voting down the Liberals and Nationals' Bill, Labor is allowing this to continue.

"Labor cannot manage money, cannot be trusted to rein in the CFMEU, and Victorians are paying the price."
