Labor Pledges Funds for Windsor Kids' Center

The City of Stonnington welcomes the announcement from Federal Labor Member for Macnamara, Josh Burns MP, who has made a $4.3 million election commitment towards securing the future of the much-loved Windsor Community Children's Centre (WCCC).

This significant commitment recognises the vital role the centre plays in the lives of 80 local families and reflects growing support to preserve early years services in the heart of Windsor.

Mayor of Stonnington, Cr Melina Sehr, said the Federal commitment marks a positive step forward in Council's ongoing advocacy to save the centre.

"We're absolutely thrilled to see this level of support for Windsor Community Children's Centre," said Cr Sehr.

"This funding promise shows real recognition of how important this facility is to local families and the broader community. It is a hopeful moment—but we also understand there's more work to be done."

The funding, while an encouraging development, remains contingent on the outcome of the upcoming Federal election. Council acknowledges that further collaboration between all levels of government is essential to secure the site and safeguard its future as a critical community asset.

The land at 131–133 Union Street, Windsor, currently owned by Swinburne University of Technology, is under threat of rezoning for private commercial and residential use. Council has objected to the proposed rezoning and is exploring all options to protect the site for community use.

"Council cannot afford to purchase the site alone," said Cr Sehr.

"We've consistently advocated for a shared solution with State and Federal Governments to secure the future of WCCC, and today's commitment is a clear sign that our message is being heard."

Council will continue to work with Federal candidates, along with local stakeholders and the community, to deliver the best possible outcome for Windsor families.
