Labor To Back Nonna's Cucina With $95,000 Commitment

Labor Party

Anthony Albanese and Labor are building South Australia's future, today committing $95,000 towards Nonna's Cucina.

Nonna's Cucina is a community-based service, mostly run by volunteers, which provides home cooked Italian style meals to the aged and people with disabilities and their carers. They predominantly service the Adelaide Italian community.

Nonna's has more than 100 volunteers and delivers 56,000 meals a year.

This $95,000 election commitment will go towards upgrading their new premises in Holden Hill including new tables and chairs, an air conditioning upgrade, and an upgrade to the existing concrete path and shelter and front and rear carpark lighting.

The new facility in Holden Hill will include a meeting space for community members to participate in activities such as bingo, while also learning to prepare their own nutritionally balanced meals.

The meeting space will provide conversation, friendship and a special connection through shared language and life experience, particularly important for elderly community members who may be at risk of social isolation and loneliness.

We went to the 2022 election promising to lift the standard of aged care in Australia, and we are delivering on that commitment. A key part of this is ensuring people can access the care they deserve in aged care, whether that be in residential aged care or at home.

Nonna's has been receiving support from the Commonwealth Government for over two decades, including an additional $77,000 earlier this year as part of a $37 million cost of living funding boost to more than 500 aged care meals providers.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.
