The Tasmanian Government is continuing its calls on the Federal Labor Government to end the uncertainty placed upon our West Coast salmon workers.
It has been more than a year since the Labor Government flagged its intention to potentially shut down the salmon industry in Macquarie Harbour.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said Tasmanians have had enough of the Federal Labor Party pandering to inner-city Green votes at the expense of regional communities.
"The Prime Minister must demonstrate leadership and provide certainty to West Coast families by Christmas," Premier Rockliff said.
"The PM's offer of a short-term sugar hit to the salmon industry in the form of an exemption is not going to cut it for Tasmanian workers.
"Salmon workers deserve more than a delay tactic designed to appease inner-city green voters.
"It is simply not good enough that the Labor Party continues to walk both sides of the fence on a decision that will impact the lives of thousands of Tasmanians.
"The science is clear: the Maugean Skate and salmon farming can coexist in Macquarie Harbour, with oxygenation levels in the Harbour at their best in a decade.
"The Federal Government must grant full approval for salmon farming to continue in the Harbour, by Christmas.
"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are backing in jobs, keeping our economy strong and delivering for our regions and our Liberal Government will continue to back our world-class sustainable salmon industry to the hilt."
