Labor's Deadline Nears for Tamar River Bridge Deal

Tasmanian Government

Anthony Albanese still has nine sleeps to deliver a great Santa's gift to Launceston residents by working with us to build the Tamar River Bridge.

As the Federal Labor Government attempts to make things right with Tasmanians after years of delays and indecision, they have another chance to provide certainty for Northern Tasmania.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has committed $80 million towards the construction of a second Tamar River crossing between the West Tamar Highway and the East Tamar Highway north of University Way in Newnham.

It will be a game changer for safety and transport reliability across Launceston and the Tamar Valley.

Our Government's strong commitment is in stark contrast to Labor who have failed to support a second river crossing for over six years.

We welcome the Albanese Government to commit to this important project ahead of the 2025 federal election.

The Tasmanian Government's engineering consultants have finalised their work, including an extra alignment option, and the business case was submitted to Infrastructure Australia in late February.

Given the strength of the business case, we remain optimistic that this project will be funded. But we are still waiting.

The challenge for Labor is to explain why they continue to deny Tasmanians this important project.

There are nine days until Christmas so there is plenty of time for the Prime Minister to finally come to the table and deliver for the people of Northern Tasmania.
