Lake Alexander Closed Over Water Quality Concerns

Darwin City Council

Lake Alexander has been closed temporarily due to elevated levels of bacteria detected during routine water quality monitoring, with heavy rainfall and runoff into the lake temporarily reducing water quality.

As the current quality of the water does not meet the levels required for swimming, the lake has been temporarily closed to swimmers and for other water activities whilst further testing is undertaken.

The public will be advised when the lake is reopened. Until then, please heed all signs while the water quality testing is being undertaken.

City of Darwin apologises for any inconvenience related to the closure, yet remains committed to maintaining the highest environmental practices to protect the community and our environment.

Lake Alexander has its water quality regularly monitored for public safety.
