Lakes Entrance, a picturesque town nestled along the Gippsland Lakes, was celebrated as a finalist at the prestigious 2023 TAC Victorian Top Tourism Town Award on Wednesday, July 26.
Ballarat was announced as the category winner at a ceremony held in Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula. Lakes Entrance was noted for its exceptional blend of nature, culture and seaside charm.
Judges, travellers and locals recognised Lakes Entrance's appeal.
The East Gippsland Shire's recent achievement of becoming the state's first certified ECO Destination by Ecotourism Australia showcases the dedication of towns such as Lakes Entrance to providing exceptional nature-based tourism experiences.
"Being a finalist in the Top Tourism Town Award is an incredible achievement," said East Gippsland Shire Council Mayor, Cr Mark Reeves.
"Lakes Entrance's blend of nature and culture offers visitors an unforgettable experience. I would also like to congratulate Ballarat on its win.
"We are motivated us to continue fostering tourism, collaboration and an exceptional visitor experience, all in an eco-friendly way."
Lakes Entrance is renowned as a seafood capital and offers the chance to fish from a kayak or boat on the calm lake waters or savour the catches at the town's fresh seafood shops and restaurants.
"Our local tourism industry has unwavering support and dedication of the local community, businesses, and organisations," Cr Reeves added.
"Their collaborative efforts have transformed Lakes Entrance into a welcoming and vibrant destination that is being recognised at the highest level."
