NSW Crown Lands has informed Council of a suspected historic asbestos dumping site off the Lambie Gorge walking track in Cooma.
In response, Snowy Monaro Regional Council is installing barricade tape around the affected area. Residents are asked to keep out of the area for their safety and to avoid any potential cross-contamination.
Crown Lands is awaiting test results of samples taken from the suspected site and Council will advise the community of the outcome of their investigation.
If an asbestos contaminated site is confirmed, Council will work with Crown Lands to share details of the remediation process.
We will update the community as we know more.
