Lancaster University has maintained its place as 11th out of 122 UK Universities in the latest national league table from the Guardian - which also sees Lancaster once again taking the top spot in the North West of England.

Sixteen subject areas at Lancaster ranked in the top 10 in the UK in the Guardian University Guide 2025, with four in the top five.

Top ten ranking subjects at Lancaster are: Social Work (2), Biomedical Science (3), Physics (4), Product Design (5), Accounting and Finance (7), Criminology (7=), English (7), Creative Writing (7), Business and Management (9), Chemistry (10), Earth and Marine Sciences (10), Marketing and Public Relations (10), Mathematics (10), Mechanical Engineering (10), Sociology and Social Policy (10) and Sports Science (10).

At the same time, Lancaster has been labelled "one to watch" in a special feature by the Guardian, celebrating three "rising stars" of this year's guide. Lancaster has been recognised for its graduate outcomes and for the support it gives to students, as well as its consistently high placing for more than a decade.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Andy Schofield said: "We are delighted to have been recognised once again among the best in the UK, and to have remained the top university in the North West. We have again performed particularly well in the 'satisfied with teaching' and 'continuation' categories, which is testament to the quality of student experience here, and to the support we provide for students to transition into the next stages of their degree.

"We are very proud that the Guardian chose to highlight the value of a Lancaster degree in their reporting."

Lancaster University is in the top ten in The Complete University Guide 2025 and consistently placed in the top 15 in the major UK league tables. The University also ranks highly in international league tables such as the QS World Rankings.
