- Cook Government land transfer to Shire of Quairading to enable new aged care services that will allow residents to age-in-place
- 8,800 square metres of Crown land transferred for nominal fee
- Aged care facility proposed for the site will house approximately 25 residents
The Cook Government has approved a land transfer in the Shire of Quairading to enable the proposed development of more residential aged care services in the Wheatbelt region.
The 8,800 square metre Crown land site in the Quairading town centre will be transferred to the Shire in conditional freehold, for a nominal fee. Conveniently located next to the district hospital, the site is earmarked for a purpose-built aged care facility with capacity to support approximately 25 residents.
One third of the Shire's 1,200-strong population is aged over 65 years and the proposed development will give this cohort the option to age-in-place close to family and familiar surrounds.
The facility will deliver intermediate and high care services as well as lower-level support for those who are able to live independently with some assistance.
The Shire will work with an aged care provider to develop services at the site.
As stated by Lands Minister John Carey:
"To ensure the needs of an ageing population are met, the Cook Government remains committed to making land available and working with local governments across the State to enable diverse housing options to be developed for those who want to remain within their local communities.
"This transfer of land is the first step towards new fit-for-purpose aged care services in Quairading and the wider Wheatbelt region."
