Department of State

As stated by Spokesperson Tammy Bruce:

Today Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau spoke with Mexican Foreign Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente to affirm the U.S. commitment to building a new era of U.S.-Mexico security cooperation. This was Deputy Secretary Landau's first official call following his swearing in on March 25.

They discussed ongoing joint efforts to secure our borders, dismantle cartels, and stop the flow of illicit drugs, firearms, and illegal aliens. Foreign Secretary de la Fuente emphasized Mexico's determination to address security concerns and cooperate with the United States. They also discussed the need for strengthening commercial ties and investment opportunities.

Deputy Secretary Landau, who served as the United States Ambassador to Mexico from 2019 to 2021, spoke about the special U.S.-Mexico relationship and the strong impact it has on the lives of those on both sides of the border. The Deputy Secretary expressed appreciation for Mexico's increased efforts to stop illegal immigration by receiving more deportation flights and repatriating a larger number of illegal immigrants to their home countries.
