Toowoomba Region artist Jenny Foxton has drawn on the fragility of the Australian environment as the inspiration for a new body of work, Landscapes of Change, that is on display at the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery until February 14, 2021.
Foxton said her solo exhibition reflected the deep layers of humans' relationships with the landscape, both in harmony and in conflict with nature.
She said growing up in the bush had provided her with a deep reverence for the natural environment.
"My connection with the environment inspires my work, but I now feel it as a deep sense of loss when I witness environmental decline," she said.
The work examines the beauty, fragility and resilience of the Australian environment that is so frequently devastated by drought, fire and floods. Foxton's paintings depict both denuded and regenerated landscapes.
