The City of Greater Geelong's application for $5 million in Victorian Government funding to help redevelop the John Landy Athletics Field has been successful.
The funding, to be provided via the government's Council Support Package for regional cities who were to have hosted the 2026 Commonwealth Games, adds to $5 million committed by the Council.
It means a planned $10 million redevelopment of Landy Field, including construction of a new two-storey pavilion, grandstand and other facility improvements, will go ahead.
The new pavilion will feature a competition office, public toilets, change rooms, canteen/kiosk, social and community room, meeting room and uniform store, as well as providing a main entry point to the complex.

The project will mean athletes using Landy Field will have access to a modern, fit-for-purpose pavilion, while spectators will be able to watch in the comfort of a brand new grandstand.
With athletics about to be in the spotlight via the Paris Olympics and Paralympics, it's a hugely exciting time for the sport in Geelong.
In addition to the $10 million redevelopment, the City of Greater Geelong is carrying out a $1.5 million renewal of the athletics track.
The renewal works, fully funded by the Council, will see the installation of a brand new surface in blue and grey, plus relocation of the hammer and discuss cage to allow for more competition events to be carried out at the same time.
The renewal of the track will mean the facility retains its World Athletics Class 2 accreditation.
