Lars H. Lund Named on 2024 Highly Cited Researchers List

Clarivate has unveiled its 2024 list of Highly Cited Researchers, recognizing individuals whose work has had significant global influence in their fields. Lars H. Lund is one of them.

Researchers from Karolinska Institutet (KI) are among those honored, highlighting their outstanding contributions to science and medicine. This recognition is based on analysis of citation data from the Web of Science, which identifies researchers with extensive influence through widely cited publications.

Lars Lund at the Department of Medicine, Solna leads a comprehensive research program on heart failure, encompassing animal models, translational studies, and clinical and randomized interventional studies. Heart failure is the most common cause of hospital admission and is associated with poor quality of life.

His research group primarily focuses on two major issues:

  • In heart failure with weak heart muscle, there are medications that slow the progression, but none that strengthen the heart muscle. The group identifies new mechanisms and conducts studies with new types of drugs that can improve the heart's contractility and pumping ability.
  • In heart failure with a stiff heart muscle, there is currently no treatment. The group has identified new mechanisms that cause this type of heart failure, and drug development is now being directed towards these mechanisms.

The 2024 list includes over 6,600 researchers from various disciplines worldwide, reflecting exceptional impact and the dissemination of knowledge in critical areas. The inclusion of researchers from KI underscores the institute's commitment to advancing medical science and innovation.
