Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council began upgrades to Lascelles Street in Braidwood in September.
Lascelles Street between Ryrie Street and Wallace Street was closed to traffic on Wednesday 21 September to facilitate upgrades including the rehabilitation of the road surface, upgrading the stormwater infrastructure, replacing existing street trees and planting more trees, installing footpaths and a pedestrian refuge, and formalising car parking.
The road is closed to through-traffic, but arrangements are in place so local traffic can access their properties during the expected 16-week closure. Access for visitors, carers, postal deliveries and waste services to these properties, as well as pedestrian access across Lascelles Street to and from the IGA, has also been maintained.
Contractors have been liaising regularly with the IGA and affected residents on Lascelles Street, working with them when access was blocked for brief periods to prepare for driveway replacement.
Some parking on Wallace Street was blocked on 4 October to allow for stormwater work. These works experienced a slight delay due to wet weather, but the installation of stormwater pipes began Thursday 13 October.
Parking on Wallace Street is planned to be restored by the end of October. A temporary disabled parking space has been provided on Wallace Street as close as possible to the IGA.
Contractors are scheduling further stormwater works to minimise disruption to IGA's delivery service as much as possible.
Demolition of the existing kerb and gutter on Lascelles Street is 80% complete and street trees have been removed. Preparation for the new kerb and gutter has started but has been delayed due to wet weather.
These works are being funded through the NSW Government's Stronger Communities Fund, Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program and Section 94 contributions.
These upgrades will improve the safety and amenity of Lascelles Street and we appreciate the Braidwood community's patience and understanding as we work to complete this long- awaited project.
