Kiama Council is encouraging everyone to make the most of the final stages of the 'Remarkable' exhibition at Gerringong Library and Museum (GLaM).
'Remarkable: Stories of Australians and their boats', is a collection of maritime stories and artefacts, which explores the remarkable connections between people and their boats.
The highlight is the full-size Nawi canoe, made by Gerringong elder Uncle Stephen Russell, highlighting the coastal connection of the Wodi Wodi people to Gerringong and Werri lagoon.
The Bundanon Trust has loaned the canoe to the Gerringong & District Historical Society especially for the exhibition.
It complements the local stories and materials on display, alongside those from along our nation's 36,000km coastline and 1,000 plus rivers.
These include historic images, paintings and models connected to Boat Harbour, Werri Lagoon and Crooked River.
'Remarkable' is collaboration between the Australian National Maritime Museum and Gerringong Historical Society, with funding provided by Kiama Council.
The exhibition runs until 6 November and opening hours are:
- Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 10am - 12pm
- Fridays and Saturdays 11am - 3pm)
