A beach walkway in Toomulla is likely to be named after the late James Anderson, a founding resident of the suburb.
Townsville City Council's Infrastructure Committee recommended the application be approved at the meeting yesterday, and the item will go to Full Council for approval later in the month.
Infrastructure Committee chairperson Kurt Rehbein said the application submitted by Mr Anderson's grandson, on behalf of his own mother, was extremely thoughtful.
"The grandson of Mr Anderson has submitted this application to Council, in an effort to have his grandfather recognised for his contributions to the growth of Toomulla on behalf of his mum," Cr Rehbein said.
"Relative to the size of the community, there has been strong support for the suggestion of naming a walkway in Mr Anderson's honour and we're looking forward to working with the family to locate a suitable walkway and to design and install the signage."
Mr Anderson bought his plot of land on Herald Street in 1956 and was one of the first people to clear land and build his beach hut at Toomulla Beach.
