The NDIA is committed to improving employment outcomes for all participants.
A key priority of the Participant Employment Strategy is ensuring young participants receive efficient and effective employment support to build skills for work and to find and keep a job.
We've released the sixth edition of the Provider Quarterly Report - School Leaver Employment. The report examines the employment assistance delivered to 7,326 school leaving participants, their progress, and the outcomes they achieved.
The report provides insights into provider practices and identifies factors leading to successful employment outcomes as indicated in the data submitted by providers to the Agency from July 2023 to June 2024.
Key data highlights show that:
Of the 2,165 participants who exited support:
- 12% (266 out of 2,165) went on to further study or volunteer work.
- 22% (478 out of 2,165) achieved open employment outcomes.
- 4% (92 out of 2,165) achieved supported employment outcomes (working in a supported employment service).
Key insights show that:
- Increased time receiving skill specific training was associated with a higher chance of making significant progress in applying those skills.
- Similarly, participants spending more time in work experience were more likely to gain paid employment.
Also, participants who made significant progress or fully achieved the following milestones were more likely to gain paid employment:
- Employer engagement and job customisation
- Acquiring work skills
- Work experience
- Building social, presentation and communication skills
