Social campaigns and activities will be running across Latrobe City as part of the 16 days of Activism campaign.
The 16 days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence is global campaign led annually by the United Nations, where communities around the world join the call to prevent and eliminate gender-based violence.
Kicking off from November 25, the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women, until December 10, Human Rights Day, the campaign will provide opportunities for communities around the region to join the conversation.
Latrobe City Council is partnering with Let's Chat Gippsland in spreading awareness across the municipality.
This year, the Let's Chat coffee cup stickers are rolling out to café's across the City as part of Council's Coffee Cup Sticker campaign. The stickers have a QR code, to ask customers a variety of questions to prompt thinking and conversation about gender equality.
Activities taking place in Latrobe City also include the Big Respect Photography Pop ups, which will occur over the 16 Days. Locations include:
· Lowanna College, 30 Nov, 11am -1pm
· Moe Library Forecourt, 6 Dec, 10.30 - 12pm
· Morwell Innovation Centre, 8 Dec, 11am - 2pm
Mayor of Latrobe City, Cr Darren Howe, implores the community to actively take steps to end gender-based violence and share in conversations about prevention.
"Latrobe City Council continues to support our commitment in leading conversations towards gender equality and creating safe communities," said the Mayor.
"We hope our community will be part of the activities held across the City, which will create space for important conversations and learning."
The 16 days of Activism campaign also forms part of Living Well Latrobe - Our Community's Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan, which includes actions to work with the community and partners to end gender-based violence.
