Launceston and the Tamar Valley is one of the top 10 regions in the world to visit in 2025, according to globally renowned travel authority Lonely Planet.

Reaching hundreds of millions of travellers each year, Lonely Planet has been guiding travel around the world for more than 50 years. The coveted annual 'Best in Travel' is now in its 15th year and includes the top 10 cities, countries, and regions to visit in the world.

Premier and Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Jeremy Rockliff said being recognised as having one of the best regions in the world is an incredible achievement for Tasmania and our Launceston region.

"While Tasmania's stunning and diverse regions set us apart as a travel destination, it's the tourism and hospitality industry and our communities who provide unforgettable experiences, produce and beverages that showcase the best of what our regions have to offer," Premier Rockliff said.

"I encourage Tasmanians, Australians and people from across the globe to head out into our regions to explore our world-class tourism and hospitality offerings in the coming months."

The Launceston region has a globally recognised food and wine scene, complemented by stunning scenery from the rolling hills of Tamar Valley, the natural wonder of Cataract Gorge right at the city's doorstep and some of the State's most unique tourism offerings and experiences.

"It is no surprise that Launceston and the Tamar Valley is listed as one of the top regional destinations to visit in the world," Premier Rockliff said.

Coming in at number four on the list, Launceston and the Tamar Valley is the only Australian destination to feature in this year's Best in Travel, alongside other regions of Valais in Switzerland, The Terai in Nepal and Chiriqui in Panama.

Lonely Planet has previously singled out Hobart in the cities category for Best in Travel 2013, and Tasmania in the regions category for Best in Travel 2015.

This year's Lonely Planet Best in Travel inclusion is the latest in a slew of global recognition for Tasmania's tourism and hospitality industry, alongside Tasmania being named in The New York Times 52 places to visit list, The Tasman Hotel named in World's Best 50 list, and wukalina Walk named in TIME Magazine's World's Greatest Places, among others.

The Tasmanian Government is a strong supporter of the tourism industry.

"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we have a plan to sustainably grow our visitor economy, reduce red tape in agritourism and invest in the next generation of tourism and hospitality workers," Premier Rockliff said.
