Leah Anderson has secured 59.87% of the Mayoral vote, making her the first popularly elected female Mayor to represent Port Stephens.

"I'd like to say thank you to the people of Port Stephens for electing me as Mayor. I'm genuinely honoured and humbled to be taking on this incredibly important role," said Mayor Anderson.

Mayor Anderson has been a Councillor since 2021 and Deputy Mayor since 13 September 2023.

"For the past 3 years in my role as Councillor, I've worked in partnership with the community to set the foundations for our future – financial sustainability, roads, housing, the environment and support for those less fortunate, have been a key focus," she said.

"Over the past few weeks, I've spoken with hundreds of people across Port Stephens and there's no doubt in my mind that these issues are still at the top of the list for residents and business.

"As Mayor, I'll continue to advocate for solutions to housing affordability and diversity while at the same time making sure that we support future growth with investment in our roads, transport, health services, schools, and public spaces.

"I'm committed to leading an open, honest and transparent organisation. Community engagement will remain at the forefront of what we do.

"I want all residents of Port Stephens to be able to have their say on issues that are important to them.

"I'm really excited about the next 4 years. I know that by working together with our Council and Port Stephens locals we can build a thriving, vibrant, and inclusive community and a brighter future for Port Stephens," Mayor Anderson added.

The newly elected Council will be officially sworn in at the first Council meeting on Tuesday 22 October.
