Nillumbik residents over 50 who want to improve their digital literacy are invited to join an exciting new program.
The Be Connected Young Mentors Program for Digital Literacy is designed to empower residents with essential digital skills while fostering intergenerational connections.
Beginning on Tuesday 6 August, the six week program pairs older adults with students from a local high school.
Participants will receive one-on-one guidance using digital devices, sending emails, video chatting with family, navigating Google Maps, and more.
The sessions ensure residents can learn at their own pace and focus on what matters most to them.
Nillumbik Mayor Ben Ramcharan said in today's digital age it is important that all members of our community feel confident using technology.
"The Be Connected Young Mentors Program is beneficial for all participants," Cr Ramcharan said.
"Our older residents gain vital digital skills and our youth develop leadership and communication abilities, all whilst creating valuable connections between generations."
The program was developed by eSafety as part of the Australian Government's Be Connected initiative.
Interested participants can contact Council's Social Connections Officer at 9433 3295 or [email protected] for more information or to register.
