Dandenong Highway Patrol were left shaking their heads after a learner driver was caught nearly 100km/h over the speed limit in Springvale this morning.
Officers detected the Mazda 3 on Westall Road travelling 173km/h in an 80km/h zone about 1.15am.
The car, with three passengers on board, was being driven by a 17-year-old unaccompanied learner driver, who wasn't so much concerned with being pulled over by police but what his brother would think when he gets home without his car.
The vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1038.
The teen is expected to be charged on summons with speed dangerous, driver in a manner dangerous and other driving related offences.
This impound forms part of Operation Roadwise, a Statewide road policing operation during the high-risk Christmas period.
Police are targeting impaired driving, speed, distraction and fatigue in high-risk areas throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Operation Roadwise runs until 11.59pm Sunday 26 December 2021.
