Learner Rider Learns Hard Way

A man has had his motorcycle impounded after he was allegedly caught standing up on his motorcycle whilst riding through traffic in Endeavor Hills yesterday.

The rider was initially observed by members of the State Highway Patrol allegedly pulling a wheel stand on Heatherton Road just after 12pm.

It is alleged the rider then stood up on the motorcycle, without holding on to the handlebars.

Officers conducted checks to reveal the motorbike was unregistered and intercepted the rider.

The man allegedly produced his learner permit and showed the officers where he displays his L plate: under the rear seat.

Police conducted a preliminary oral fluid test which allegedly indicated a positive result.

To top it all off, the rider was wearing only a singlet and tracksuit pants, however he did manage to remember his helmet.

The bike was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1091.90.

The 20-year-old Endeavour Hills man is expected to be charged with drive while exceeding the prescribed concentration of drugs, improper use of a vehicle, fail to have full control, use an unregistered motorcycle and other learner permit related offences.

Motorcyclists continue to be over-represented in road trauma, with 17 rider fatalities on Victorian roads so far this year.

Excessive or inappropriate speed continues to be one of the major factors in fatal collisions involving motorcyclists.
