Last Wednesday, at the August Ordinary meeting, Council noted the Leeton Shire Sporting Walk of Fame committee will go into recess until additional athletes become eligible in the future. This motion was brought forward by Mayor Cr Tony Reneker through the submission of a Mayoral Minute which was tabled alongside a status report from the Committee.

Established in December 2018, the aim of the Leeton Shire Sporting Walk of Fame is to acknowledge the elite sportspersons of this shire who have competed at an international level.

The inductees to date, which were acknowledged across two separate events in 2022 and 2023, include Mark Taylor, Matthew Dunn, Patricia Thomson, Brian Waters, Krishna Stanton-Wood, David Barnhill, Greg Miller, Joanne Peters, Norm Harrison and Robert McLachlan. The committee is confident they have at this present time captured all eligible athletes but are aware of at least four athletes who may become eligible for inclusion in future years.

At the meeting, Council also supported in-principle the idea of providing future financial backing for the program (when consideration is made to adding more athletes), recognising the value of the project and this partnership.

Council would like to extend its appreciation to the Committee for their efforts in bringing the vision to life and establishing another location for residents and visitors to celebrate, visit and be inspired.
