The new Legana Primary School is nearing completion, and local families are invited to tour the school and enrol children from Kindergarten to Year 6 for next year.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said this is a unique opportunity for children from the Legana area to attend a brand new, state-of-the-art Tasmanian school.
"This project is the first Tasmanian school to be built in decades, and it was created by the community, for the community," Minister Palmer said.
"As one of the fastest growing areas in greater Launceston, we are so pleased to be able to deliver this school for families who live in Legana or are choosing to move here.
"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, the Tasmanian Liberal Government is building on our record investment in education infrastructure."
Legana Primary School Foundation Principal, Elizabeth O'Donahue, is excited to be involved in the school's early days.
"There's something special about being part of a school from the very beginning and helping to shape it from the ground up," Mrs O'Donahue said.
"I'm really looking forward to the doors opening on day one of term one next year and working with our staff, students and families to create our school identity and sense of community."
The school will be able to accommodate 350 students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
The design was shaped through extensive consultation with students, staff, and the broader community.
The school will feature state of the art, contemporary learning facilities and will include a dedicated Outside School Hours Care service, an oral health clinic, and access the new regional sports oval owned by the West Tamar Council.
Construction is expected to be completed in November.
Enrolments are open for local families, and tours will be offered next month so families can see the school for themselves.
