Mr Leggatt succeeds Mirvac's CEO, Development - Residential, Commercial and Mixed-Use Stuart Penklis. He will serve as the RDC's Chair for the next two years and sit on the Property Council's National Board.
Mr Leggatt said a strong voice for the residential development sector is vital as we strive to build the homes Australians need.
"As a key voice in the housing debate, we will continue to champion evidence-led policies to address the nation's housing supply and affordability crisis," Mr Leggatt said.
"While the need for more social and affordable housing is clear, the private residential sector will deliver the vast majority of our ambitious national housing target.
"Increasing the supply of housing is widely recognised as the key to addressing the housing crisis, but with project feasibility challenges in both greenfield and infill projects, the right investment seatings are critical.
"Reforming our planning systems, boosting productivity, cutting red tape and removing affordability-killing taxes remain our highest priorities, as well as advocating for targeted funding of housing-enabling infrastructure," he said.
Mr Leggatt has over 25 years of experience in the property sector. He joined Frasers Property Australia in 2010, holding senior roles, including General Manager Development Queensland and Executive General Manager Development. Previously, he was an Associate Director in Macquarie Bank's Property Division in Australia and the USA.
Property Council Group Executive Policy and Advocacy Matthew Kandelaars said he is delighted to work with Mr Leggatt and the broader RDC for the next term.
"We are thrilled to have Cameron's strategic counsel at the helm as we tackle the housing crisis alongside the Residential Development Council's experienced market leaders," Mr Kandelaars said.
"With cost-of-living pressures, we know there is no issue of greater importance to Australians than housing.
"We are committed to advocating for pro-housing and supply-boosting initiatives to support affordability, whether for purchase or rent.
