The League of European Research Universities (LERU) has recently launched a blog called Forging Connections: Public Engagement in Europe and Beyond. This new webspace, which will contain 12 articles, will give voice to a variety of specialists in the field of public engagement, who will explain different ways in which the activity and benefits of higher education and research can be shared with society.
The blog will soon be offering practical examples of citizen science from different member universities, including the University of Barcelona, with the aim of promoting citizen participation in the university world. The authors are members of LERU's citizen participation group, including Josep Perelló, professor of Physics at the UB and director of the OpenSystems group, also at the UB.
The first blog post, written by Sarah Barnes, head of Citizen Engagement at University College London, differentiates between the concepts of "citizen engagement", "co-production" and "citizen science".
