The new multistorey carpark at the Launceston General Hospital has taken another important step forward, with the construction tender released today.
Minister for Health, Jacquie Petrusma, said the carpark will improve access for patients, staff and visitors, and was an important part of the Tasmanian Liberal Government's $647.5 million LGH Masterplan.
"Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are continuing to deliver state-of-the-art infrastructure projects at all major hospitals," Minister Petrusma said.
"This new carpark will provide more than 470 parking spaces across seven levels, which will be warmly welcomed by staff, patients and visitors.
"Improving parking and access to the LGH precinct was a key consideration in the development of the LGH Precinct Masterplan, which will provide world-class facilities for Tasmanians.
"We understand the importance of hospital parking facilities, including for patients coming to their appointments, visitors who may be coming to visit their loved ones and of course our hard-working staff.
"I look forward to seeing plans progress further in the coming months."
The carpark's facilities will include secure bicycle parking, a dual head electric vehicle fast charging station, and ten accessible parking spaces complying with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
Construction is expected to begin in mid-2025 and be completed by late 2026.
A temporary carpark will be established on the old Anne O'Byrne site at the corner of Howick and Charles Street to provide parking facilities while the multistorey carpark is under construction.
