Liberal HPC Switch Sparks Trust Concerns

Tas Labor

While Labor welcomes an end to the uncertainty surrounding the future of the AFL High Performance Centre, the last minute switcheroo from Rosny to Kingborough is yet more evidence that you can't trust this Liberal government.

Despite plans to move the centre to Kingston being the worst-kept secret in town, the Liberals have been maintaining for months that Rosny remained their preferred site.

If this was going to be the result, why did the Government divide the Clarence community? When was this decision made?

Premier Rockliff, former Minister Street and Minister Duigan have refused to be upfront about this project, despite Labor asking questions the whole way through.

Congratulations to the Kingborough community who will see the social and economic benefits of this decision for decades to come. It is disappointing to me as a local member that the Eastern Shore will miss out.

Now that the decision has been made public, it's time for the Liberal minority government to get moving and build it.

The terms of the Premier's deal with the AFL stress that a development application for the HPC must be approved by the end of 2024, and construction be completed by the end of 2025.

Tasmanians have seen what the Liberals did with the Spirits. We can't afford to have another project bungled by this Liberal minority government.
