The Earthworks Academy is a purpose-built training site to help more Tasmanians become job-ready in the civil construction industry.
The funding will be used to provide:
- Additional all weather training facilities, road infrastructure for road maintenance training, simulated sites for live training experience.
- 15 single student quarters, amenities block, meals block, teacher accommodation and associated services.
It builds on the Tasmanian Government's previous provision of $4.3 million to help establish the Academy.
Liberal candidate for Lyons, Susie Bower, said the announcement backed in the Liberals' commitment to restore the 80:20 road funding rule.
"Our 80:20 road funding rule will deliver hundreds of millions of dollars in road construction to Tasmania, but we need the workforce to build it. The Earthworks Academy will ensure we're delivering the thousands of workers we need to build the additional roads a Dutton Liberal Government will bring to Tasmania," Ms Bower said.
"The Academy will not only support multiple road upgrade projects across the state, but will play a critical role in delivering the workforce we need to get more homes built for Tasmanians."
Senator for South Australia, Senator Kerrynne Liddle, said the Liberals will always support initiatives that train workers in key industries.
"The Earthworks Academy will be key in helping to address skill shortages in the sector, including for earthmoving plant operators, bulldozer operators, excavator operators, grader operators, loader and road roller operators, and truck drivers," Senator Liddle said.
This project is part of the Liberals' plan to invest in our regions, support local jobs and get Australia back on track.
