Kiama Council is encouraging our community to have their say about the collections at our Kiama and Gerringong Libraries.

Director Planning, Environment & Communities Jessica Rippon said the collection survey was an invaluable opportunity for our community to have their say on the 62,000 books, magazines, audio books, music CDs and movie DVDs on their shelves of our libraries.

"Last year our fantastic librarians were busy managing a circulation of more than 114,000 items," Ms Rippon said.

"That confirms the strong local support for our libraries, with more than half our community a library member."

"While we want to hear from our loyal library members, we also want to hear from 'the other half' who are not library members."

"Libraries support literacy, lifelong learning, access to information and community connection so it is important that our collections remain relevant to these purposes."

"That includes learning what we can do to improve our collections to make them relevant and appealing to the changing needs of our changing community."

Ms Rippon said results from the survey would help with a Collection Development Policy, part of an overall Library Strategy to support and encourage increased membership and usage.
