After a fantastic turnout to the first Light Up Camperdown festival last year, organisers hope the event shines even brighter in 2024.
About 1,500 people came to the first Light Up Camperdown – Light and Lantern Festival last year and Corangamite Shire Mayor Kate Makin said she hoped word of mouth would attract even more to the growing event on Friday 6 December.
"Light Up Camperdown is a fun, colourful evening that's all about getting together with friends and family to enjoy the lighting, projections, and interactive activities.
"Entertainers will be roving through the crowd and the Rotary Club of Camperdown will coordinate a range of food stalls and markets from midday.
"There will be late night Christmas shopping and more.
"One new event this year will be the screening of a Christmas movie at the Theatre Royal: 'The Santa Clause 2' from 6 pm.
"It will all build up to the lantern parade & lighting up of the clocktower and courthouse.
"It's a great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping and support local businesses in between enjoying the acts, getting something to eat and drink, and catching up with friends.
"We expect it to be a fantastic way to enjoy a summer evening and launch into the festive season and holiday period."
The evening will include a Welcome to Country in the avenue.
Artist in Residence Clare Younis for the event will lead a number of lantern-making workshops in the days leading up to the festival so community members can join the parade with lanterns made with their own hands.
A community lantern making workshop will be held at the Killara centre on Sunday 1 December, from 1.30-3.30 pm. All materials will be supplied for $20 per person.
Alongside the lantern parade the event will include projections works on the civic centre and family friendly entertainment.
