Light Up Windsor Streets Ahead Thanks To Grant

Picture of the snow flurries at Light Up Windsor, lit up blue at nightGet set for the biggest ever Light Up Windsor Street Fair on Saturday, 30 November 2024! It's going further than ever before down George Street, Windsor thanks to an Open Streets Program grant of $65,000 from the NSW Government.

Hawkesbury City Council has received an Open Streets Program grant to activate all of George Street from the Windsor Train Station to the Windsor Mall for placemaking activations as part of Light Up Windsor, the Hawkesbury's premier Christmas event.

The Open Streets Program aims to inject vibrancy into our streets and help to create thriving local places that support businesses, creative sectors, and the community through events and activations.

The Hawkesbury's festive elves are so excited that they are already hard at work planning a huge event program, which for the first time will include the activation of illuminated Christmas installations, festive chalk art and Christmas murals all the way along George Street.

Santa is so excited, he's even sending a live reindeer all the way from the North Pole to meet visitors, as well as appearing in person with Mrs Claus, which will be a highlight of the evening.

Historic Thompson Square will be activated and 50-plus market stalls will extend along Windsor Mall, George Street and Baker Street.

Save the Date!

Everyone will be bopping along to festive favourites in between shopping for stocking stuffers. Get your photos at the snow flurries and Christmas lights, and enjoy the free face painting, as well as roaming and on-stage entertainment and fun family activities.

The main stage on George Street will provide hours of entertainment including the best in local music and dance talent.

With stalls offering Christmas decorations, homewares, pet gifts, handmade jewellery and more, plus many of the Windsor Mall shops open for trading, Light Up Windsor will be the perfect opportunity to find Christmas gifts for your loved ones. Local cafes and restaurants will also be open, so there will be plenty of food options!

Stay tuned, as Council's award-winning 'Find a Reindeer' competition will also be back! Closer to the date, you will find seven reindeer on the night and deliver your passport to Council's tent on the night to collect a special prize!

Minister for Roads, Arts, Music and the Night-Time Economy, Jobs and Tourism John Graham said:

"We're excited to support this event in Windsor.

Santa's throne at Light Up Windsor"Too often our main streets are something we drive through, rather than drive to. Our streets are a critical part of our public and social infrastructure. Great streets make great towns and centres and reflect the local community and culture.

"The Open Streets program is about temporarily transforming our main streets into vibrant and welcoming public event spaces.

"The colour and diversity of these 130 events celebrates the unique personality of each town or suburb. This is what our vibrancy agenda is all about, backing locals to create events and entertainment that works for their local community."

Light Up Windsor is presented in conjunction with Windsor Business Group. Hawkesbury City Council thanks event sponsors Windsor RSL - Stage Sponsor, Western Sydney Airport - Silver Sponsor and Rafton Family Lawyers - Reindeer Sponsor.
