Campaspe Shire Council unanimously endorsed a commitment of $310,800 to upgrade the oval lighting at the Lockington Recreation Reserve at last night's meeting.

Mayor Rob Amos said the lighting upgrade is a project well worth supporting and in line with other recent decisions regarding recreation projects.

"Council has identified the Lockington Recreation Reserve lighting project as a priority for the Lockington district and by implementing a 100-lux lighting system, this will create a safer environment for evening training, improved spectator experience and enable further playing opportunities for night games to be scheduled.

"The decision to upgrade to 100-lux exceeds the standards prescribed by the AFL Preferred Facility Guidelines, for training at a local level. However, the AFL is currently reviewing their Facility Guidelines, and while there may not be any change at this time, Council is being proactive and increasing the level in the event the AFL's Guidelines change in the future."

Consideration of lighting upgrades across the shire will occur as lighting assets are due for renewal.

"The upgrade to 100-lux is a sustainable and worthwhile project and we are happy to support it. We want to do this once and do it right the first time," Mayor Amos said.
