Lithgow Mayor Cass Coleman and Council's Director of People and Places, Shaun Elwood recently visited Access Laundry to tour their facilities and to discuss the valuable service and social benefit the business provides for the Lithgow Community.
Staffed by 28 NDIS supported employees with 4 supervisors and 22 open employees, Access Laundry provides commercial laundry services to hospitality industries across the Blue Mountains and Central West, including a significant number of new clients in recent months. Currently processing 25-30 tons of linen per week with equipment to reach 40 tons in the future.
Access Laundry Managing Director Shane Coombe spoke with the Mayor about the importance of providing meaningful work for all members of the community. Through the upskilling provided by Access Laundry, supported employees can move from supported work through the NDIS into full time fully paid work. "We already have transitioned one employee to full time employment and added another NDIS participant to our workforce as permanent part time" said Mr Coombe.
Mayor Cass Coleman stated that "This Council is committed to fostering a robust and dynamic business environment in the Lithgow LGA, and Access Laundry is a good example of a business that delivers quality service while facilitating a valuable public service."
Mr. Elwood said, "Having local businesses like Access Laundry that facilitate and service other businesses, is important in the local economy, especially for our existing accommodation operators. It is also critical for new businesses looking to set up shop in Lithgow to know that they can source many supporting services from other local businesses that also employ locally."
Access Laundry will be hosting an Open Day on December 5th from 9:00am to 5:00pm and encourages the community to come visit and tour the facility to learn more about how the company can help NDIS supported employees and other members of the community looking for work.
