Cr Cassandra Coleman, Mayor of Lithgow, recently attended a meeting with Josh Murray, Secretary of Transport for NSW, and Matthew Longland, Chief Executive of Sydney Trains, to discuss the future of rail transport in Lithgow.
Organised by the Lithgow Community Power Project, the meeting aimed to seek alignment on the future of rail manufacturing and precinct development in Lithgow.
"Lithgow has a long and proud history of rail manufacturing and maintenance and is well positioned to support both in the future," Mayor Cassandra Coleman said.
Mayor Coleman expressed that the Council supports efforts to encourage the development of rail-based businesses and the wider employment opportunities they would bring.
"Council supports initiatives to activate the former Lithgow Railway Yards, and we thank the Community Power Project for organising the meeting," Mayor Coleman said.
"Working on a shared vision for the former State Rail Yards in Lithgow is a first step in unlocking the site's potential - and in securing a strong future for rail in the region. I look forward to ongoing discussions with Transport for NSW staff."
