Liverpool Hosts Open RAN High-Density Demand Showcase

The latest developments in telecommunications will be unveiled at the Liverpool City Region Open RAN High Density Demand Showcase which will take place on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 10am - 4 pm at the Arena & Convention Centre Liverpool (ACC Liverpool).

The Showcase will bring together industry leaders, technology experts, and policymakers to explore the how Open RAN (Radio Access Network) technology can enhance digital infrastructure and connectivity.

The event will reveal the findings from the Liverpool City Region High Density Demand (HDD) R&D project which has been testing the use of Open RAN technology in real-world environments, such as event venues, to see if it can easily, safely and securely provide connectivity.

The programme for the Showcase includes:

  • Insights into the LCR HDD project's impact
  • Real-world implementation of Open RAN technology.
  • A focus on technological advancements.
  • Benefits and next steps.

Funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and consortium partners, the Liverpool City Region HDD project ran from September 2023 through to February 2025.

The Liverpool City Region HDD consortium is led by the University of Liverpool in collaboration with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA) and ITS Technology Group.

Partners include Liverpool John Moores University, local telecommunications, software and super-computing organisations: ITS Technology, Aro, CGA Simulation, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Hartree Centre; and wireless tech. leaders from the UK and beyond Attocore, Weaver Labs, Telet, Radisys and Qualcomm
