The University of Liverpool will formally launch its new Interdisciplinary Centre for Sustainability Research (ICSR) this month, as part of the institution's annual Sustainability Week.
Established in 2024, the mission of the ICSR is to support teams of researchers who can collectively tackle the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will act as a nexus for interdisciplinary research and impact at Liverpool by bringing together researchers with different types of knowledge, experience and skills from across the University, as well as promote engagement with national and international experts.
The launch will take place on Wednesday 26th February from 4.30 - 6pm in Lecture Theatre 1 of the 502 Teaching Hub.
This event is open to all University staff and students, as well as the general public. You can book your place here.
Vice Chancellor Professor Tim Jones and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Impact Professor Anthony Hollander will open the event. Professor Katie Atkinson, Director of the ICSR, will talk about the aims of the Centre and the activities that will be taking place within it to stimulate interdisciplinary research and impact.
Director of IBM Research Europe (Ireland and UK), Dr Juan Bernabé-Moreno, who is also the company's Climate and Sustainability Accelerated Discovery Lead, will provide reflections on his experience of leading large projects on sustainability requiring collaboration between interdisciplinary experts.
Professor Katie Atkinson said "I am very much looking forward to the official launch of the Centre and welcoming Dr Juan Bernabé-Moreno as our special guest speaker. The ICSR is a hugely exciting new initiative and will expand impactful interdisciplinary research collaborations here at Liverpool."
Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Impact Professor Anthony Hollander said: "The ICSR will play a huge part in realising our ambitions for groundbreaking Research and Impact, as outlined in our Strategy, Liverpool 2031. I look forward to welcoming our university community to the event, as well as key stakeholders from across the city region."
